Veering rather drastically away from the energetic psych-rock that has established Bo Ningen as a must-see live acts for years now, the London-based quartet (originally from Japan) have returned with their first new music since 2014. Lead single 'B.C' is a tantalising taste of the band's new album Sudden Fictions, which will be released later in the year through Alcopop! Records. Taking its time to kick in, 'B.C' opens with an undercurrent of rippling, insect-like guitar work as vocalist-bassist Taigen Kawabe reels off reverb and delay soaked melodies in the Japanese. Hitting at 1 minute 45, Akihide Monna's rock-solid beats kick in and a melancholy bass line sets the tone for the rest of the track. The playful entwinement between guitarists Yuki Tsujii and Kohhei Matsuda is captivating and perhaps one of the only familiar features on 'B.C'. Favouring experimental textures over face-melting riffs, 'B.C' is a satisfying and beguiling introduction to Sudden Fictions. -Holly Mullineaux
